These Marble Wine Coolers will Make You Feel Like Royalty

Image: @editionsmilano

You may struggle to find a cooler wine cooler than these marble creations by Italian designer Pietro Russo. The containers are created using a combination of striking marbles and are part wine cooler, part artwork, part table centrepiece and combine outstanding design with rather old-school practicality.

How do Marble Wine Coolers Work?

Each cooler is made using different types of marble and contains an interior cylinder that is hand-brushed with brass. Marble conducts heat differently from other materials; it is incredibly dense and conducts heat quickly, making it the ideal wine container that preserves the wine or champagne bottle's temperature in the most natural way. Thanks to marble's natural properties, bottles will remain chilled at their best. No ice needed!

Who Designed Them?

The coolers were designed by Milan-based interior and product designer Pietro Russo. In 2001, he moved to Milan and began collaborating with interior design studios and brands before founding his own studio in 2010. His talents span across several mediums, including painting, ceramics, installations, set design, interior design, architecture and, of course, product design.

He has been lauded in the media as "Homo Faber of the design industry", which can be translated as "man the maker"—a concept that sees humans as the creators of their fates and environments through the use of tools. This is no doubt due to Russo's "ability to combine his passion and creative exuberance with a meticulous manufacturing procedure."

Working with a team of skilled Italian artisans, he consistently brings his passion for re-inventing traditional production techniques to life. He is "always looking for the perfect balance between the imaginary and the earthly dimensions," which is evident in his beautifully designed wine coolers that combine function and practicality with earthly elements.

How Can I Get My Hands on One?

The coolers are sold on Editions Milano, a website that sells a curated collection of works created by a variety of world-renowned designers. Each creation combines artistic expression with innovative design, with works including furniture, lighting, objects and tableware.
