It’s Official People, Flares are Back

Image: @frame

Yes, it's true: Flares are back.

Specifically, denim flares. Or any wide-legged denim for that matter. Although Gen Z has recently been tearing chunks off millennials for wearing skinny-leg jeans, we’re not giving them credit for this sartorial tide. It’s a trend that’s been threatening to reappear for some years, but we can now say with certainty that it’s here to stay.

And especially for (but not limited to) those of us who have curvier legs, we welcome this new dawn of extra width in our denim. With a high, fitted waist, they can be just as flattering—if not more so—than our loved skinny jeans, and can even be more work-appropriate with a smart tailored blazer.

Wear yours in light or dark denim—though you may want a pair of each for different outfits. A floor-grazing length is universally flattering, but taller women can also opt for a style that’s cropped above the ankle. Cropped boots with a heel are a good option for day-to-day or wear your denim with a pair of heels to give yourself extra height. Most of our favourite styles this season are high-waisted, so it’s best to pair your wide-leg jeans with tucked shirts or crop tops, for the most flattering finish.
