Travis Scott Just Joined a Growing List of Celebs in the Drinks Industry

Celebrities put their names on everything from fragrances to steaks, so it’s no surprise that Travis Scott–rapper, producer, fashion mogul and father to Kylie Jenner's baby—has now released his own line of hard seltzer.

Since 2019, the alcoholic seltzer market has been absolutely booming—from the White Claw craze that disrupted an entire generation’s drinking habits to the recent rise in craft seltzers.

In partnership with massive American brewing company Anheuser-Busch, Scott created CACTI Agave Spiked Seltzer, inspired by the flavours of tequila and mezcal. The cans, infused with Scott’s signature bold, street-style aesthetic, are due on shelves in North America’s spring this year.

Scott worked hands-on alongside Anheuser-Busch’s innovation team and his creative team to create flavours, design packaging, choose ingredients, and plan branding and marketing. It will be brewed in Los Angeles and made with 100 per cent premium blue agave from Mexico. The drink will have a 7% ABV and will initially be available in lime, pineapple and strawberry flavours. There is no word yet on when CACTI will be available Down Under.

In a nod to Scott’s at-times psychedelic vibe, the tagline for the beverage is “Down to Earth ingredients, out of this world flavour”.
“CACTI is something I’m really proud of and have put a ton of work into. Me and the team really went in, not only on getting the flavor right, but on thousands of creative protos on everything from the actual beverage, to the can concept, to the packaging and how it is presented to the world. We always try to convey a feeling in our products,” Scott said in a statement. “I’m a big fan of tequila so I came at it from that angle, too. I’m really excited to put this out in 2021 and see other people be able to enjoy it.”

Fabricio Zonzini, president of the Beyond Beer arm of Anheuser-Busch, said the company was excited about working with Scott to bring something new to the growing hard seltzer market.

“We are all about delivering what consumers want, and as a culture-shaping artist, Scott is incredibly connected to his fans and what’s new and next in culture,” Zonzini said.

But Scott is hardly the first or the biggest celebrity to put his name on a drink. Here are a few of our favourites:

Dwayne ‘The Rock’ Johnson x Teremana tequila

We love The Rock, and if you don’t follow him on Instagram already, you’re missing out. Among the work-out pics, cheat meal confessions and adorable videos of his young daughters, there are plenty of references to his own brand of tequila. The word Teremana is a combination of tere, from the Latin 'terra', meaning earth, and 'mana', the Polynesian word for spirit, making Teremana the "Spirit of the Earth". Made in Jalisco, Mexico, the tequila was released last year as the pandemic hit its stride, and is the fastest-growing celebrity alcohol in history. It’s impossible to get in Australia—and regularly sells out in many other parts of the world—but reviews position it as a high-end, eminently drinkable tequila.

George Clooney x Casamigos Tequila

Along with pal Rande Gerber (businessman and husband of Cindy Crawford), Clooney created Casamigos, the same name given to the vacation compound they share in Mexico, which loosely translates as ‘house of friends’. When they couldn’t find a perfect tequila, they got in touch with a master distiller in Jalisco and refined their blend to create a drink they loved. It was initially supposed to be a small-batch tequila for sharing with friends but it snowballed and became a globally successful alcohol brand. In 2017, spirits giant Diageo bought Casamigos for $1.28 billion, making Clooney the world’s highest-paid actor that year—despite not starring in a single film.

Ryan Reynolds x Aviation Gin

Aviation Gin was first produced in Portland, Oregon, by founders Christian Krogstad and Ryan Magarian in 2006, and Reynolds bought a large share in the company in 2018—allegedly after trying it and deciding it was the best gin in the world. He was heavily involved in the creative direction of the brand and, on selling his share to Diageo last year in a deal worth up to $770 million, will continue to be a face for the brand.
