Yes, Goop is Selling an $800 Serum
It’s no surprise to see expensive products on Goop, the wellness website created by actress Gwyneth Paltrow. The self-proclaimed lifestyle brand regularly features alternative therapies, beauty, and health solutions for the every-woman. That is, the every-woman who doesn’t mind spending a pretty penny on feeling and looking good. Goop has famously touted top-of-the-line products in its newsletters, gift guides, and editorials. And one of the latest features in the site’s “clean beauty” shop is no exception.
Introducing, Dr Barbara Sturm’s Hyaluronic Serum Festive Edition. At a steep price of $800 USD, ($1,048 AUD), one would hope that it’s worth it. According to Sturm’s loyal following of die-hard fans, it might just be.
Read on to learn more about this pricy serum, and to get a bit of background on the brand behind such an enviable concoction.
Dr Barbara Sturm Hyaluronic Serum Festive Edition
Those familiar with Dr Barbara Sturm and her extensive line of skincare products will surely be familiar with this hyaluronic serum. According to Goop, “The ultrahydrating serum works for every skin type there is, flooding it with long- and short-chain hyaluronic acid molecules (which are naturally found in the skin, but your body produces less of them as you age) as well as soothing purslane, a botanical Dr Sturm prizes for its beautiful effects on skin.”
With a medical background and years of success in her own practice, it’s safe to say that Sturm what she’s doing with her formulations. Goop isn’t the only to realise either, with beauty editors from Vogue, Byrdie, and Harper’s Bazaar backing up the fanatic buzz.
While the typical bottle of this precious serum usually clocks in around $460 AUD - $490 AUD, it is the size of the mega-bottle sold on Goop that sends that number rocketing. This festive edition of the ever-popular product is over three times bigger than the usual bottle.
Based on the cult-like status that this hyaluronic serum has gained, it seems that once you start using it, you won’t want to stop. That considered, then, perhaps the festive edition is worth it despite the price tag. After all, with skincare, consistency is key — so if this is a staple in your regimen, buying one large bottle may be more convenient than a few of the usual size ones. Goop also notes that “The minimalist jumbo white bottle comes in a festive red box—total luxury.”
About Dr Sturm’s Hyronic Serum
If Dr Sturm’s skincare line has a “hero-product” it would likely be this serum, though it’s admittedly hard to choose just one when the entire brand is so noteworthy. No matter your skin type, Dr Barbara Sturm’s skincare line touts this particular serum as “the most fundamental creation” of them all.
Filled with high weighted Hyaluronic molecules, the serum instantly hydrates both the surface and lower layers of the skin. According to the brand, “When used as part of your daily skincare routine, the Hyaluronic Serum improves the skin matrix and acts as a super-hydrator, improving skin health and reducing the formation of wrinkles caused by dehydration. It’s also the perfect travel companion after exposure to the sun and the elements, as Purslane, an anti-aging powerhouse, reduces the appearance of the visible signs of irritation.”
While it may sound too good to be true, the chorus is singing her praises. “I only wish I’d started the investment sooner,” Vogue editor Tilly Macalister-Smith wrote in a deep-dive of the brand. British Vogue’s lifestyle and beauty director echoed the sentiment: “Sturm’s Hyaluronic Acid is one of the best on the market. Lightweight, fluid, non-tacky, it’s the ideal entry-level product into discovering the range. Try this, and you will want to try everything else too.”
While upwards of $1,000 is undeniably a lot to spend on a single skincare serum, it seems that this is one product that might just be worth it.
I’m not sure about you, my interest is piqued—at least to try a small bottle.
