Something Very Special is Coming to Nour This May

Nour is hosting a very special Sicilian-inspired dinner throughout the month of May — and lets just say, you don’t want to miss it!

If you live in Sydney, you likely know and love Nour, the Surry Hills eatery that serves up luscious Middle Eastern-inspired dishes. Since opening in 2016, the restaurant has become a mainstay in the Sydney food scene with its cosy, twinkling pastel interior and creative food.

While the menu is always impeccable — think flavourful mezze dishes and woodfired meats — the restaurant is bringing something new to the table throughout May.

With a host of bespoke drinks and menu items, the restaurant is presenting ‘Taste of Siquillya’, an exploration of Sicilian cuisine and its similarities to Middle Eastern cooking. While the Arabic influence on Sicilian cooking can be traced back to the 10th century, the commonalities of ingredients used in both cuisines are often overlooked. But Nour is here to change that perception.

With flavours including lemon, orange, and pistachio, the restaurant is adding a rotation of Sicilian-style specials throughout the month, tying the two cultures together with flavour and style.

The Dishes

Every day for the month of May, Nour will add an exciting array of special Sicilian-inspired dishes alongside its usual flair. With each dish meant to represent the Taste Of Siquillya (Siquillya is the Arabic kingdom that ruled Sicily from 831-to 1091), you can expect an explosion of flavour that shifts your understanding of these two cultures' cuisines.

To start, a flavourful mezze special sets the stage. A chickpea panelle is topped with smoked swordfish with peperonata (capsicum stew) and served with raisin and olive for a burst of flavour. Next up is the Arabic-originated pasta chi sardi as a main. Bright, zesty, rich and earthy at once, the pasta dish is comprised of thick spaghetti served with sardines, saffron lemon sauce, and finished with a fennel and pine nut pangrattato on top. Finish on a sweet note with a classic cheese curd and almond cake with candied citrus, reimaged in the Nour style.

Of course, you’ll need something to wash it all down, and thankfully, an aperitif and digestif have been designed in collaboration with Gruppo Campari for the series. Allow the Pomegranate Americano to wake up your taste buds at the start, and indulge in a creamy Caffe Shakerato once dessert is done. The perfect bookends to a fabulous meal.

The Taste Of Siquillya Event Night

As if special menu items every night weren’t enough, Nour is rounding out the series with a special set-menu event on the evening of May 25th.

Lino Sauro, founder of Olio Kensington Street, will host alongside Nour’s head chef Luca Lonati for an unforgettable night of fine dining. The unique menu will bring together the two renowned chefs for one night only, with an unforgettable fusion of Arabic and Sicilian flavours.

Black rice arancini with sea urchin, Trapanese pesto ravioli, and almond milk couscous with raisin gelato are just a hint of the creative dishes that will be included in the banquet menu. Clocking in at $150 for a seven-course meal, and two drinks, it’s definitely a worthy night out for adventurous foodies who’d like to explore a new fusion of two distinct cuisines.
