Standing Desks That Will Make Working From Home So Much Better
If like us, you’ve been working at your kitchen table for the last year, it might be time to give your home office situation a little upgrade. We know you’ve heard it all before, but sitting is the new smoking. And sitting in a poor ergonomic set-up is the new playing in traffic. Well, maybe not exactly—but you can do fairly serious damage to your neck, back and wrists sitting in a bad position for eight hours a day.
The simple solution (aside from early retirement, which sounds lovely but perhaps unfeasible) is a standing desk. And people rave about them with good cause: Standing decreases your risk of weight gain, lowers your blood sugar levels, reduces your risk of heart disease, lessens back and neck pain, improves mood and energy levels, and boosts productivity. It can even help you live longer.
You’re best to look for a sit/stand option, as they let you sit down intermittently (standing still for long periods also carries risk). Of course, if you wanted to take it to the next level, you could go for a treadmill desk, a la Victoria Beckham, but we’ll be starting with one of these classic standing desk options.
The Best Luxury Standing Desks
If You’re Short on Space
Try this Desky Single Sit Stand Pedestal Desk. It’s the smallest option we’ve found and will tuck neatly into a corner of the dining room when you’re not using it. It can be used seated or standing, and the single-leg frame can lift up to 50kg. The desk uses a control system with three pre-programmable heights with the push of a button, and the adjustable feet let you create the most comfortable position.
If You Want the Ultimate Ergonomic Setup
Check out the E7 Electric Standing Desk Converter from Uplift Desk. This converter sits on your existing desk and lets you switch from seated to standing easily. If you have a desktop setup, there’s a detachable keyboard tray, for good wrist positioning, and it’s designed not to compromise your seated position. It remembers your preferred heights and it can lift 50kg—which is great if you opt for the dual or triple monitor options. In fact, you can fully customise yours, with 24 possible configurations of monitors, desktop, steel base colours and more.
If You Want Something More Attractive
Look to this Primo Executive Electric Height Adjustable Desk. With the “shark nose edge” and attached storage units, this desk is both functional and sleek, offering much more character than your average desk.
If The Environment is Your Priority
This Jarvis Bamboo Standing Desk from Fully is a good option. Made of sustainable bamboo grown sans fertiliser and pesticides, it’s a great choice for the ethically minded. The frame lifts a whopping 158 kg, and it’s controlled with an LED programmable handset. It comes in two shapes and seven sizes, as well as optional extras like desk drawers and wire management kits.
