These Dresses Make Transitioning From Summer to Autumn so Easy
Autumn is upon us, which means it’s time to cycle out our summer wardrobe for our cooler-weather staples. But before you go throwing all your pretty, light dresses into a box at the back of the closet, check out these trans-seasonal printed dresses from Rixo—they’ll see you through the warm months and the cold with just a few styling tweaks.
Rixo began in London in 2015, the brainchild of best friends and students Henrietta Rix and Orlagh McCloskey. United by their love of sustainable vintage fashion, they launched their collection of vintage-inspired one-off pieces for modern women. The brand’s ethos is to create, “The vintage treasures you always dream about, sans the effort and price tag required to find them.”
The brand's clothes are designed to be loved and worn repeatedly and can be styled in different ways for different occasions. Unique prints and flattering, easy-to-wear cuts are at the heart of the collections, which is what makes these dresses perfect for wearing across seasons.
Here are three Rixo dresses, and some insight into how we’re wearing them in the transition from summer and autumn.
The Best Rixo Dresses for Autumn 2021
This classic vintage tea dress has flutter sleeves, a demure V neck, and an empire waistline, along with an ankle-length skirt cut on the bias.
In summer, you can wear this dress with flat sandals, or thin-strapped heels if you’re a bit shorter and want to give yourself some height. A straw hat, fine jewellery and a wide belt are optional extras to add colour and interest.
As the weather cools, a cropped denim jacket should see you through dips in the evenings’ temperature, but for consistently cool days, layer a fine turtleneck in a complementary colour under the dress and add ankle boots. When it’s really cold, a fitted coat, preferably in a shorter length, over the top will keep you snug.
This flattering dress has a slightly deeper V neckline, a button front, cap sleeves, a fitted waist and a midi length skirt.
This dress is super versatile: In summer, you can wear it with flat sandals or heels—sturdy or delicate, either works. For jewellery, choose precious metals in fine or chunky chains, and that goes for winter too. As the mercury drops, cropped jackets will keep you warm, or layer the dress with a white turtleneck or crew neck sweater in a fine fabric like merino. White sneakers are the perfect accompaniment and add bunched up socks in a colour in the same palette for a bit of a twist.
This classic slip has a semi-fitted cut and a low scoop back, making it subtly sexy and easy to wear.
Designed for summer, this dress can be worn over a swimsuit at the beach or poolside, with a pair of casual beach sandals and a wide-brimmed straw hat, but it will just as easily take you to the bar when paired with low heels and a pair of statement-making earrings.
In early autumn, slip it on over a plain white crew neck, then swap to a top with longer sleeves—white is good, or choose one in one of the colours in the print. For warmer footwear, white sneakers will do for a casual event (pair with a denim jacket), or ankle boots and a leather jacket to be a bit dressier.
