Zesty, sweet and as fresh as the summer rain, the caipirinha has earned its place as Brazil’s cherished national cocktail. While its true origins remain ambiguous, some say the caipirinha was a medicinal drink to combat the symptoms of the Spanish Flu. Others say it was the drink of choice at the soirees of São Paulo’s sugarcane plantation houses.

Whatever its original purpose, the caipirinha is now enjoyed in bars the world over as a refreshing daytime quaff. Best of all, with only three ingredients, it’s so easy to make and is a great way to showcase the complexity and character of Brazil’s native sugar-cane spirit, cachaça.

For our Premium Cocktail Series, we’re presenting a riff on this classic Brazilian cocktail, using a premium liquor that has earned its spot on our listSagatiba Preciosa Cachaça, with origins as ambiguous as the caipirinha itself, is a brilliant base-spirit for a rich and textured caipirinha.

Floral, peppery and fragrant, this premium aged cachaça pairs exceptionally well with its humble copilots in the caipirinha, zesty lime juice and earthy cane sugar and lends the refreshing classic a lingering, spice-laden finish.
