This Celebrity Hairstylist Wrote a Book, And Now We're Even More Obsessed
Jen Atkin’s climb to the top of the hair industry is nothing short of spectacular. The hair guru is not only a celebrity stylist but an entrepreneur, influencer and more recently, an author.
In Blowing My Way to the Top, published last December, Atkin takes us on a journey from conservative Utah to the bright lights of L.A. with a look at the “lessons, mistakes, and memorable moments that have paved her way to success.”
The book is part memoir, part career guide, “empowering readers everywhere with the permission to dream big—and the tools to make those dreams a reality.”
Because, like most beauty fans, we're more than a little obsessed with Atkin we've decided to take a look at a few career highlights from the woman known as "the most influential hairstylist in the world."
Jen Atkin's Best Career Moments
Celebrity Stylist
After packing up and leaving her Mormon community in Utah with just $300 in her pocket, Atkin began her career as a receptionist at an L.A. salon. She quickly climbed the ranks to salon manager and then assistant to Madonna’s long-time hairstylist, Chris McMillan.
Atkin soon started building up a long list of A-list clients, working backstage at Fashion Week and styling high-profile editorial shoots—earning her spot as Hollywood’s go-to hairstylist.
Atkin counts the Kardashians, Chrissy Tiegen, Jennifer Lopez, Katy Perry, Hailee Bieber, Jessica Alba and the Hadid sisters as some of her clients and close friends. Let’s take a look at a few of Jen’s celebrity clients and some of her most iconic hairstyles.

Media Maven
Atkin is the ultimate hair influencer with a loyal fanbase of 3.2 million Instagram followers. However, her community extends far beyond social media.
In 2014, Jen launched Mane Addicts: A digital magazine that gives readers access to the world’s top hairstylists, featuring hair inspiration, instructional how-to videos and advice about the best hair care products.
The platform has also expanded to include Mane University, an educational resource that brings top stylists to major cities worldwide to teach and inspire the next generation of hairdressers.
Businesswoman
In 2016 Atkin launched Ouai, a leading product range including shampoos, conditioners, hair treatments, body lotions, fragrances and supplements. Ouai, pronounced ‘way’, is now a multi-million-dollar company, reaching cult status with 1.2 million Instagram followers. The range of deluxe products aims to "help women achieve hair health from the inside and out" and is available at Sephora in Australia.
Mum
Atkin recently added mother to her long list of accomplishments with news breaking this week of the birth of her first child, River Julien, via surrogate.
