Coloured eyeliner is all the rage right now, but finding an option that’s cruelty-free isn’t always the easiest mission. Thankfully, one New Zealand-based beauty brand has risen above the rest. Kester Black has created the best colourful vegan eyeliner—actually, the best eyeliner, period—I’ve used in a while.

Like many beauty aficionados who also care about our planet’s well-being, I’ve tried a huge number of natural and vegan beauty brands over the years. Too often, though, I end up disappointed, with formulations that don’t seem quite right, or products that just slightly miss the mark.

That’s not the case with these eyeliners.

From the first swipe, you can tell that the formulation of Kester Black’s Eye-Fi Liners is on-point.

All eyeliner lovers know that texture is everything, and these ones deliver.

The liner goes on smoothly and easily but somehow doesn’t smudge once it’s applied. The pencils are soft enough that you don’t feel like you’re pressing into your eyelid— a problem I’ve experienced with other natural brands. Despite being silky, Kester Black’s eyeliners manage to stay put, with the strong pigmentation lasting all day long without any re-application necessary.

In a range of fun colours, Kester Black is breaking the boundaries of vegan beauty. Where it sometimes feels like you need to choose between quality and style, Kester Black’s eyeliners are on-trend while also looking good and being good for the planet.

Available in four different colours, Kester Black makes it easy to complete your beauty cabinet with products that you can feel good about.

Why Choose Natural Eyeliner

When you start questioning what’s in your makeup, it’s easy to see the appeal of natural beauty products.

I don’t know about you, but I feel a lot better when I can read a label, and recognise the ingredients on the list. Especially for eyeliner and mascara, which sit right on my eyes all day long.

While this doesn’t mean that all non-natural brands are bad, it’s best practice to look out for toxic ingredients and avoid them where possible. If you use eyeliner on your waterline, you should be especially careful, as certain ingredients tend to be irritating that close to the eye.

Using natural eyeliners, however, takes the guesswork out of it. You know exactly what you’re putting on your eyes.

Kester Black’s eyeliners consist of a list of natural ingredients including jojoba oil, marula oil, Vitamin E and Shea Butter — all of which meet the COSMOS standards that ensure no synthetic ingredients are added.

The Range

Taking cues from mother nature, Kester Black’s Eye-Fi Liners come in four wearable colours:

  • Blackout: A classic, black liner.

  • UF-Whoa: Shimmery bronze gold.

  • Clone: Matte rosy tan.

  • A-Eye: Canyon-coloured burnt red burgundy.

Quality aside, my favourite thing about this line is how well the liners complement each other. Despite the unique range of colours, they somehow all work together. I can easily imagine wearing the black liner, with a bit of gold smudge on the eyelids. Or a tan and red double-line using Clone and A-Eye. The possibilities to mix and match are endless and trust me, you’re going to want to invest in more than just one.
