An exciting new development is coming to railside retail in Sydney. Romeo’s Retail Group has recently introduced its brand-new concept Locali, a “European market-feel grocer [which] will deliver a refreshing new experience for Sydney CBD office workers and shoppers alike,” said group owner Joseph Romeo.

All about Locali European Market, Sydney

What is Locali?

Locali is named for the locals it seeks to serve. Set to emulate the traditional Italian grocer, this new venture aims to bring fresh food as much as a sense of community to Wynyard station. Housed in the new retail and office development at Brookfield Place, Locali will occupy the bottom retail concourse of the centre and feature a fresh-food market with its own walk-in cheese fridge, as well as a butcher with a dry-ageing room.

The finest Italian fare will be on proud display within an authentic delicatessen and bakery, while a commercial kitchen will serve restaurant-style meals and authentic Italian pizza, to serve dine-in and takeaway customers alike. With a liquor store, fishmonger and florist to top it all off, Locali is sure to be the premier one-stop-shop before the evening commute from the city.

Regular cooking classes and wine-tastings are said to be counted among the impressive offerings of this new venture, which will hopefully encourage busy CBD workers to slow down for a moment and enjoy the culture and community on offer.

When Will Locali Open?

Locali is set to open its doors mid-year, as one of the first retailers in the exciting Brookfield Place development. The rest of the precinct is on schedule to be completed over the following months. Just as Romeo’s other Sydney grocery stores have, Locali may well become a widely loved institution, as the store will operate under a 10-year lease with two options to extend for another five years.

Be sure to keep an eye out for any further news on this exciting development. I know I’ll be one of the first through its doors to sniff cheese and sip wine!
