Since we’re in the midst of another lockdown here in Sydney, I’m sure some of us are going to indulge in the contents of our liquor cabinets a little more than usual for the next couple of weeks. It's a small comfort— pouring a drink while housebound for a fortnight, I know— but a comfort nonetheless.

For the more health-minded among us, trying to cut back on the drinks or even kick them all together, may be on your agenda. But old habits die hard, and there are few things older than enjoying a drink. It doesn't have to be difficult, though. Having a broad range of alcohol-free alternatives is a must in making the cut back a little bit easier.

NON is an unconventional company that takes pride in its alternative approach to alcohol-free beverages. Rather than simply removing the alcohol from wine or cider, NON prefers to create a complete product from the ground up. 

By building the flavour profiles of its beverages right from the first steps of production, NON ensures that it bottles only the most complex, interesting and flavourful drinks, without the need for excessive additives or gastronomic trickery.

The soon-to-be-released Stewed Cherry & Coffee is no different. 

The process begins at NON’s facility in Moorabbin, Melbourne, where cherries are stewed carefully by hand over four days. The resulting rich and deep flavour base is then balanced with the addition of cold-brew coffee, the dried skins of coffee cherries, and a careful blend of spices like nutmeg, garam masala and pink peppercorn. 

The resulting beverage is said to resemble a dry style of Lambrusco, Italy’s world-famous sparkling red wine, with a foundation of rich forest berries, a touch of dark chocolate bitterness, balanced tannins and a warming, floral palate.

Sounds like a winner to me!
