The luxury yacht industry is rarely thought of as the foreground of sustainability. It’s easy to see why, when opulence, style and spectacle are the prime considerations of design. But the luxury yacht design company Vripack, making waves in the industry since 1961, seeks to change that.

With its new design, Futura, this small Dutch studio is set to change the face of luxury, maritime environmentalism for good.

Vripack is a small studio with a big impact, headquartered in Sneek, in the Netherlands. Vripack endeavours to deliver the most enriching maritime experience possible. By collaborating personally with every one of their clients, the studio indulges its clients' curiosity and sense of adventure without compromising their needs and expectations.

The result is functional elegance and beautiful design that invites dynamic new possibilities and offers stalwart performance and safety.

The studio has also collaborated with respected institutions such as Studio F.A. Porsche, bringing the company's legendary design and engineering capabilities together with a focus on luxury, precision performance and style. With the fruits of this collaboration, among many others, Vripack has smashed the industry status-quo and consistently raised the bar to new heights.

Vripack’s Futura Yacht

The latest design out of Vripack studios is a perfect continuation of their benchmark-setting performance. The aptly named Futura embodies the core of the studio’s design philosophy. In doing so, it also marks a bold plunge into the future of design and sustainable boating. With a profile reminiscent of a majestic marine animal, and a hull adorned with a scale-like patterning, the Futura is a product of nature that seeks to harmonise with it perfectly.

The yacht features a long, low design, at 66 meters long—rising only a third of the height of similar vessels. Its broad, open decks provide ample space for sunning and play, while its split-mezzanine configuration gives the vessel a flowing, interconnected feel. With impressive lines-of-sight, an array of spaces to lounge and mingle, and a grand, 20 person banquet table, the Futura invites its owner to entertain in unmatched opulence and style.

By day or by night, the Futura is primed to impress with its unrivalled suite of entertainment facilities. The sky deck features a DJ booth that links to the boat’s integrated sound system, while the sun deck is home to a flexible, open-plan lounge area that can transform into a cinema at a moment's notice. The main deck is host to numerous luxuriant social spaces as well, one of which can be rearranged to make room for a helicopter landing platform.

The majestic vessel is also the ideal holiday home-on-the-water, featuring 6 staterooms that open directly to the spa and "beach house" on the lower deck. With a fore tender area comprising enclosed nine and six-meter tenders, the Futura has ample space to accommodate any support vessels and toys needed to ensure a thrilling and luxurious maritime adventure.

Vripack Futura’s Sustainability

Despite its breathtaking style and glamour, the Futura is a tour de force in sustainable engineering. It is the pinnacle achievement of a design philosophy that approaches sustainability as a design challenge, rather than a moral sacrifice. Vripack has not waited for the winds of environmental awareness to reach the luxury superyacht industry and has instead been a leader in the field, designing yachts with sustainable features as standard for their clientele.

The Futura represents a bold leap forward to fossil-fuel-free sailing. Featuring a diesel/electric hybrid engine, the Futura is specifically designed to run on biofuel, produced from food waste. This hybrid engine does not shy away from performance standards, however, and can maintain a cruise speed of 12 knots, and a top speed of 16 knots.

The Futura also features an incredible suite of battery banks, designed in-house by Vripack studios. Its revolutionary bio-batteries are made from salt, water, sand and plants, and are completely biodegradable. The system harnesses nature’s power, with a large, retractable kite that can be launched to harvest wind-energy and charge the battery banks.

These sustainable innovations from Vripack allow yacht owners to minimise their impact on the environment and immerse themselves in the majesty of nature while preserving its health for future generations.

Whether you are a seasoned sailor looking to commission a unique and environmentally friendly vessel, or a sustainability enthusiast hungry for green innovations, Vripack certainly bears keeping an eye on. With more stunning, sustainable designs like the Futura in store, this studio is set to continue making waves in the industry, and a difference for the environment.
