Fresh and Fruity, This Classic Cocktail Is Like Summer in a Glass

So by now hopefully you’ve tracked down at least one of our recommended premium spirits and had the chance to craft a truly incredible quaff. From here on out, this series is going to blaze ahead of our premium spirits list and feature incredible hand-selected distillates from around the world and imaginative mixes you can use them in.
This week’s rare distillate comes courtesy of the house of Nonino from Friuli, Italy. The family distillery’s Legendary Grappa featured in one of our previous cocktail recipes, and this week’s product is likewise legendary in flavour and construction. The Amaro Nonino Quintessentiais an award winning grappa-fortified amaro (or bitter liqueur), with an intense, fruit forward flavour and subtle spicy undertones. Its robust flavour makes it the perfect foundation for a fresh and boozy and simple cocktail, the “nonino spritz”.
The classic spritzer is one of those drinks so strongly associated with holidays abroad for me that every-time I enjoy one, I’m transported directly to the shores of the Mediterranean. And what better way to enjoy the fleeting few warm afternoons of this season than to reminisce about warmer climes and simpler days.
Similar to the traditional Aperol spritz, the Nonino Spritz is a seriously refreshing number. The intense citrus and tropical fruit notes of the Amaro Nonino stretch superbly well when combined with the usual mix of sparkling wine and soda, while its subtle bitterness and spice give it a clean and slightly nutty finish.
For the sparkling wine mixer, anything on the drier side should do just fine. Anything too sweet, like a sparkling moscato, and you could easily drown out the subtlety of the Amaro Nonino. Best to use a brut prosecco and enjoy the interplay of the light, herbaceous flavours with the citrus spice of the Amaro.
Nonino Spritz: A Fresh and Fruity Cocktail!
Ingredients
45 mL Amaro Nonino Quintessentia
60 mL brut prosecco
Soda water
Sliced blood orange
Method
Fill a wine glass with ice cubes
Pour in Amaro, prosecco and top up with soda water
Garnish with sliced blood orange
