This Service Makes Eating Organic Easier Than Ever

Safe to say, "organic" is no longer a health buzz word but a fully-fledged movement. People are quickly switching on to the fact that organic food and products are not only good for us but also good for the earth, with 65% of Australian households now buying some sort of organic product or produce yearly-- an annual rise of 5%, according to the 2019 Australian Organic Market Report.

Organic food, worth an estimated $2.6 billion, boomed even further in 2020, with Aussies seeking healthier produce in the wake of COVID-19. And as the organic food sector boomed, grocery home delivery was also spurred on by the pandemic. Despite many supermarkets being open, strict lockdowns and the feeling of impending doom sent people online to organise their weekly grocery shopping.

One company hitting that sweet spot between organic produce and home delivery is Doorstep Organics who have made eating organic easier than ever with a service that delivers fresh, certified organic, Australian produce straight to your door.

All About Doorstep Organics

What is Doorstep Organics?

Doorstep Organics was started over 25 years ago by NSW farmers Carolyn Savage and Geoff Richardson. It began as a community project, with locals committing to work on the farm once a month in exchange for a box of fresh vegetables. The project quickly turned into an organic produce delivery business and still operates as such today.

The founders bought a van and began adding local, seasonal market produce to their range of deliverable goods. The couple's son, Peter, and his partner Georgia joined in 2004, helping the business expand by setting up a warehouse in Sydney and adding new products, including niche or gourmet foods and eco-friendly household cleaning products, baby products, and personal care items.

What can you buy?

Doorstep Organics has it all: Delicious seasonal boxes of organic fruit and veggies, dried fruit and nuts, meat and fish, dairy, cereals, crackers, pasta, stocks and broths, herbs and spices, chocolate and desserts, as well as gluten-free and vegan options. The online shop also features pet food, cleaning products, supplements, speciality foods, baby products, laundry items, seed growing kits and more.

Let’s not forget the drinks. The service also carries a range of alcoholic beverages, including organic Chardonnays, preservative-free Pinot Noirs, organic lagers and even Bloody Mary Mix.

Why Is Organic Better?

Eating organic is better for many reasons, including:

  • health

  • environmental

  • community

Eating Organic Is Healthier

Not only is organic food delicious, but it is better for you. By choosing to eat organic, you are choosing to eliminate your consumption of harmful pesticides, fertilisers and chemicals that are often found in regular, non-organic food.

This principle also extends to cleaning and beauty products, with companies consciously stripping products of nasty chemicals, using the best that nature has to offer to ensure our skin and our homes are safer and cleaner than ever.

Eating Organic is Better for the Environment

The removal of those pesky pesticides and chemicals is far better for both the land, helping cultivate healthy soil and combating erosion. Organic farming can also help in ‘maintaining biodiversity of the ecosystem and fostering healthy soil and growing conditions.’ Organic farming has also been known to support water conservation and water health.

Organic also extends to animals who are now treated more humanely and no longer pumped with hormones and drugs.

Eating Organic Is Good for the Community

Given the challenges of the last few years (drought, fires, pandemic and floods, to name but a few), ordering organic produce through websites like Doorstep Organics is an excellent way to support local farmers and organic product suppliers and do your bit for the community.
